Gary McLean, fleet manager for the city of Lakeland, Florida, was named as the recipient of the Legendary Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Government Fleet Expo and Conference (GFX) in Louisville.

Andy Campbell of Sourcewell, which partnered with Government Fleet in presenting the award, recognized McLean.

McLean was chosen by the industry among all the Public Fleet Hall of Fame inductees. He was inducted into the Public Fleet Hall of Fame in 2022. Unfortunately, Gary was unable to make it to GFX to accept his award. He sent a statement to the Government Fleet team, reading in part:

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support and for the recognition of this award.  It’s an honor to be considered a good representative of local government fleet agencies. I feel like there’s a very large group of my colleagues who are on equal or higher ground than me and again, what an honor to receive this recognition."

McLean previously worked for the city of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and served in the U.S. Air Force.
