The F-150 Police Responder: Pursuit-Rated Tough

The Ford F-150 Police Responder provides Law Enforcement an on-road pursuit-rated vehicle with off-road capability that’s Built Ford Tough. The versatile F-150 Police Responder has the largest interior passenger volume of any pursuit-rated vehicle at 131.8 cubic feet, and a generous 52.8 cubic feet of storage in the cargo box, providing lots of space to transport passengers and gear.

The purpose-built interior of the F-150 Police Responder includes durable police-grade cloth front seats with reduced bolsters for improved comfort when wearing a duty belt or body armor, and anti-stab plates in the seatbacks.  An 8-way power driver seat is standard, with an available power passenger seat.  A column-mounted shifter is provided along with center console delete, leaving ample room for installation of upfit consoles and on-board equipment. A reinforced universal top tray on the top center of the instrument panel allows for installation of radar equipment, ticket printers and other equipment.

The rear seat is covered in easy-to-clean vinyl, and the flooring is durable vinyl as well.  Red and white task lighting is provided in the overhead console, and a Rear Power Lug with an 80-amp battery ground circuit is located underneath the rear seat to provide easy access to power.

A police-calibrated speedometer is included, as well as engine hour and engine idle-hour meters. The F-150 Police Responder comes standard with the FX4 Off-Road Package, which includes off-road tuned shocks, underbody skid plates, electronic locking rear axle and Hill Descent Control™, and 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires for enhanced off-road capability. The rugged body-on-frame construction includes a fully-boxed, high-strength steel frame, while both the body and cargo box use Built Ford Tough military-grade aluminum-alloy for strength and resistance to corrosion.

The payload capacity of the F-150 Police Responder is the greatest of any pursuit-rated vehicle, at 2,030 lbs., as is the standard towing capacity of 7,000 lbs. Agencies can upgrade towing capacity to 10,700 lbs. with the optional Trailer Tow Package, which includes Pro Trailer Backup Assist. Pro Trailer Backup Assist enables drivers to use a dash-mounted knob to “steer the trailer” rather than steer the truck.

Power and Performance

Power comes from the 3.5L EcoBoost® engine that puts out 375 horsepower, and 470 lb.-ft. of torque, the most torque of any pursuit-rated vehicle. Results from Michigan State Police testing in September show the F-150 Police Responder accelerating from 0-60 in 6.7 seconds and 0-100 in 16.7 seconds, outperforming all non-Ford utility vehicles and V6 sedans tested in these categories.

The 3.5L EcoBoost is mated to a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission configured with progressive range select and five selectable drive modes: Normal, Tow/Haul, Snow/Wet, EcoSelect, and Sport.  The Police-calibrated brake system includes upgraded calipers and unique pad-friction material, and an upgraded front-stabilizer bar is included for improved braking and handling.
